New partnership with UP Luxembourg - Meal Vouchers made easy
Salary.lu partners with UP Luxembourg for seamless meal voucher integration. Discover why meal vouchers deliver more value than salary raises for Luxembourg employees.
Based on a positive collaboration experience, we're partnering with UP Luxembourg to integrate meal vouchers directly into Salary.lu.
We recently worked together on a national survey with TNS ILRES, interviewing 500 employees to understand how meal vouchers really work in practice. Their approach to research was thorough and data-driven, exactly how we like to work at Salary.lu, and seeing how well they manage their meal voucher system made the partnership a natural fit.

This partnership is part of our broader vision, we're building a marketplace where businesses can have an overview of the different employee benefits solutions seamlessly. UP Luxembourg is one of the providers we're excited to work with, and the goal is straightforward: more options, less administrative headache.

Why meal vouchers actually matter
Here's something that might surprise you, give your employees a 270€ salary raise, and they'll see about 142€ in their pocket after taxes. Give them meal vouchers worth the same amount, and they get 219,60€ in real purchasing power.
That's not creative accounting. That's just how the Luxembourg tax system works.
We ran the numbers for different scenarios. For an employee earning around 2.700€ gross monthly, a 270€ raise becomes just 142€ net. For higher earners at 5.000€ gross, that same raise shrinks to only 84€ net. Meal vouchers deliver 219,60€ every single month, regardless of income level. That's over 2.600€ per year that actually stays in your employees' pockets.
The reason is simple. The employer contributes 12,20€ per voucher (fully deductible), the employee adds 2,80€, creating a 15€ voucher with virtually no taxes or social charges. For standard employees, vouchers consistently deliver more net benefit than salary raises while costing employers less.
What the survey revealed
The survey UP Luxembourg conducted with TNS ILRES showed some eye-opening results. Eighty percent of employees without meal vouchers want them. Among cross-border workers, that jumps to 90%.
Before you worry about vouchers going unused, here's the reality, 9 out of 10 beneficiaries have never let one expire. Three-quarters use them multiple times per week. More than half say meal vouchers are necessary for balancing their food budget.
But that's not all, 56% of employees see meal vouchers as employer recognition, and 44% factor them into job acceptance decisions. These aren't just numbers on a payslip. They're a benefit people actually value when choosing where to work.
What UP Luxembourg brings to the table
UP Luxembourg has built their system with over 3.500 acceptance locations across Luxembourg. They're the only meal voucher provider working with various delivery apps, which employees genuinely appreciate. Their app works well with real-time tracking, notifications, and even group reimbursement for splitting restaurant bills.
They support Apple Pay and Google Pay, because nobody wants another card in 2025. Fixed transparent pricing that doesn't change when you adjust voucher values. And when you have questions, you get actual humans who respond quickly.
How the integration works
Here's where it gets practical. Salary.lu is launching a new marketplace section where you can access meal vouchers and other employee benefits directly. With UP Luxembourg integrated into the platform, ordering meal vouchers for your employees takes just a few clicks.
Everything happens in one place. Vouchers show correctly on payslips, deductions process automatically, and employees get their cards delivered. One platform, one marketplace, everything you need.
Ready to get started?
The research is clear: employees get more net benefit from meal vouchers than equivalent salary raises. Employers spend less and see better results. The administrative work becomes minimal when everything's integrated into your payroll system.
