Frequently asked questions

Is the allowance taxable?
If the allowance stays below 40% SSM (currently €1.081,50/month) and no social contributions apply, it is not subject to income tax.
What documents does the employer need to keep?
A copy of the signed tripartite agreement, the intern's working schedule, any allowance payment records, and the written assessment if the internship exceeded 4 weeks.
Can an academic internship lead directly to an employment contract?
Yes. There is no cooling-off period - an employer can issue a standard employment contract immediately after the internship ends.
What is a tripartite agreement and who signs it?
A formal document signed by three parties: the school (which issues it), the student, and the employer. The school originates the document.
